SAN PEDRO, Calif., March 9. - The U. S. S. Argonne departed for Alaska Wednesday for the purpose of participating in the survey of the Aleutian Islands which was begun last season by the U. S. S. Gannet.
At Seattle the Argonne will be joined by the minesweepers Swallow, with the Gannet leaving San Pedro next Saturday, followed by two amphibian photographic planes on Monday which will join the Survey fleet in the Aleutians.
Another minesweeper will follow later, and the fleet will be under command of H. A. Badt, instead of Commander Hyatt, who was in charge last season. Commander Hyatt is ill aboard the hospital ship Relief.
The expedition will number 600 men, including in addition to the Navy personnel a number of civilian experts.
