CONNECTICUT MANEUVERS DEMONSTRATE THE VALUE OF THE
ENGINEERS' CORPS AND THE ARMY AVIATION SQUADRON.

Stratford, Conn., Aug. 17.-The
work of the army aviation squadron
and of the engineers' corps is among
the most interesting features of the
maneuvers being held in this section.
Lieutenants Foulois and Milling, U.
S. A., have made a number of flights
in the new double control biplane.
They carried map making apparatus,
and while one operated the machine
the other obtained records of the po-
sitions and movements of the troops.
The military authorities are highly
pleased with the results as absolute-
ly demonstrating the practicability
of the aeroplane as a war scout.
Why the engineers' branch of the
service ranks high was demonstrated
in the construction of a light pon-
toon bridge with which they
spanned the Housatonic river, en-
abling the troops to push across with
little delay after the theoretical de-
struction of Zoar bridge by the op-
posing force.
