Full Text

On Sunday morning three youths met in order to leap from the battlements of Westminster Bridge. They cast lots who should jump first and the leading chance fell upon a youth about nineteen who resolutely tripped and from the highest arch sprung into the air where he seemed long before his feet reached the Thames.

The 2d said a short prayer and following with his feet closed received no hurt. The third seemed very sensible of the danger but ashamed to retreat threw himself from the battlements and fell on his breast into the water by which he was a good deal bruised.

And to those who know the height of the bridge 'tis a wonder they are all alive. They all swam ashore.
