Gwynn And Plummer Acquitted In Court

George Gwynn and Mark Plummer were placed on trial this morning in criminal court charged with theft of two slot machines from a place of business on the Keys and were found not guilty by the jury.

Testimony was to the effect that Milton Parrott met the accused men in Miami and told them to go to his place of business on Tavernier, take the machines, carry them to Key West and sell them.

This they were doing when arrested.

At the conclusion of the testimony the jury retired but a brief time and returned with the verdict of not guilty. Members were W. F. Saunders, Clarence Higgs, Agusto Aguero, J. R. Baker, Robert Shultz, A. H. McInnis.

Milton Parrott, who signed the information against Plummer and Gwynn, was called to the bar and fined $25 or 30 days in jail by Judge Wm. V. Albury, for contempt of court in not answering the subpoena issued out of the court and making it issue a capias and have him brought back by Sheriff K. O. Thompson, yesterday.

Announcement was made that the case against Joe Russell, proprietor of Sloppy Joe's place on Greene street, for having in his stock certain parcels of liquor not carrying the required excise stamp, was passed for this week.

The case against Ivan Saunders for having gambling paraphernalia in his place, in the rear of Sloppy Joe's place, was also passed for the present. Two other cases, one against Isabelle Mingo and the other against Cecilia Castillo, charged with assault and battery, were passed for the present. It is understood that these cases may be called for trial next week.

Judge Albury ordered an informal recess and instructed Clerk C. Sam B. Curry to pay off the jury. This was done, the disbursements totalling $252.
