In the course of the last year M. Mollien, hardly 22 years of age, has explored all the regions watered by the Gambia and Rio Grande. After having ascertained the sources of those rivers, he advanced into the country of the southern Foublas to the town of Teembou, of which it is the capital, and which maj. Rennell places on the Rio Grande, in lat. 10, in long. 10.
Afterwards ascending towards the north, he proceeded towards the source of the Senegal, which he thinks he has correctly ascertained, and which is farther south than has been believed
Thence he proposed to repair to the Niger and in pursuing it to arrive perhaps at Tombuctou—but the country through which he must pass, being at war, and his guides refusing to conduct him farther, he was obliged; after having braved all the dangers and difficulties inseparable from a rout through barbarous nations, to descend
by the Rio Grande, and to return by the Bissagos Islands to the colony of Senegal, and he arrived Jan. 15, at the Island of St. Louis, whence he embarked for France with the late Governor of the colony.
