Registration Lags As Election Nears
Residents of Wrangell will go to the polls Tuesday to choose a mayor, four councilmen and a member of the school board

The election, originally scheduled for last spring, was postponed until now due to changes in territorial law.

City Clerk Robert Wickman reported this morning that registration was badly lagging and that if more persons did not come in to register before Monday noon, Tuesday's vote would probably be one of the lightest in many years. As of 10 a. m. today only 172 persons had made out their permanent registration cards.

Although there is considerable lining up of sides insofar as mayor is concerned, there is little competition in the council seat, with no race at all in the two places for three-year terms. Only Harry Coulter and George Smith appear on the ballots, and there are two to be elected.

For the two-year terms, Dr. E. J. Wheeler, Herbert Bradley and Vern Smith will vie for votes.

Two candidates—Peter McCormack and Fred Hanford—will appear on the ballot for mayor.

Olaf Hansen and Virgil Neyman have filed for the three-year term on the school board.

Registration books will close at noon on Monday and if you have not registered by then you cannot vote in Tuesday's election. If you do register, however, you won't ever have to register again as long as you vote at every election.
