Her Life of Shame,
Pretty Marie Mers, a girl of 18, and Ricardo Bosch, were arrested a few days ago by United States Immigration officer Chas. T. Connell of Douglas, Arizona, and Marshal Fred Hawkins of Jerome charged with violation of the immigration laws, and Thursday after a hearing before U. S. Commissioner Rutherford, that official put Bosch under a $2,500 bond to appear before the next U. S. grand jury that meets in Prescott.
The girl was taken to Tucson by Officer Connell at which place she will be held till after Bosch's trial against whom she will be the principal witness, when she will be deported to Torres, Mexico, her home.
Bosch was for several years a resident of Jerome, being employed as a miner by the United Verde company. Last January he paid a visit to the girl at her home, and under promises of marriage he induced her to leave her home and come to Jerome and immediately upon their arrival here, he placed her in the red light district and, as testified to by her, took the money she made from her life of shame.
