A VERY SILLY FALSEHOOD.
The latest roorback invented by the sewer knockers is that if the bonds are voted and sold, "John Beaven will have charge of the money." We can have some respect for an able-bodied lie, that shows some genius in its construction, but the statement quoted above is about the silliest lie that could be invented, and serves to show that the knockers are desperately hard pressed for argument.
Dr. Wroth is chairman of the sewer committee of the city council, and all matters concerning the sewer go to him; after receiving his approval, if of a financial character, the affair is turned over to Mr. Neustadt, chairman of the finance committee, and from him goes to the city treasurer, Mr. Simon Stern, who is under ample bond to cover a much larger sum than is ever likely to be in his hands at any one time.
