NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C., (AP) Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip began one of the most rigorous days of their western Canada tour today with nearly a dozen official ceremonies ahead of them.
The day includes the Queen's dedication of a 23-million dollar tunnel, visits to two parks jammed with children, a civic luncheon, a hospital stop, a formal dinner and brief stops at two evening musical events.
The schedule is in sharp contrast to yesterday's leisurely train trip along the swift-running, often spectacular Fraser and Thompson rivers.
At the end of today's round of functions the Queen and Philip board a navy destroyer escort for an overnight trip to Vancouver Island to begin a two-and-a-half day visit there.
