U. S. Casualties Reach 148,186

WASHINGTON, Feb. 1. (UP)

The office of war information Tuesday announced that total American casualties of the war now amount to 148,186, including 33,153 dead in addition to the recently reported victims of enemy torture.

The number of prisoners of war is given at 29,898. The enemy has reported the prison camp death of 1,933 of those prisoners, mostly in Japanese territory. Adding the 7,700 believed dead as a result of ill treatment in the Philippines, a total of 9,633 who were prisoners now are presumably dead.
