At the regular weekly meeting of the N.W.A. Chamber of Commerce President Jim Walsh discussed tentative plans for a visit to Fairbanks the last of September. This trip would give the Nome Chamber members an opportunity to visit Fairbanks Chamber members and continue the close friendly relationship established between the two groups when a delegation from Fairbanks visited here in July. Registrations for the trip may be made in the office of the Bureau of Public Roads.
A communication was received from Alvin Polet, president of the Alaska Chamber of Commerce, advising of that organization's annual meeting in Juneau Oct. 25, 26 and 27. The main topic for consideration at this meeting will be Mining. Also at that time new officers for the coming year will be elected.
A letter from Sen. John McNees was read protesting the recent removal of the public health nurse from St. Lawrence Island. Sen. McNees pointed out the urgent need for a nurse on the island because of the isolation of both Gambell and Savoonga. The Chamber was also advised of Sen. McNees' communications to Dr. Hayman of the U.S. Public Health Dept. and to the village councils of Gambell and Savoonga.
It was noted that the reason given for removing the nurse was lack of suitable living quarters in either of the two villages. The matter will be referred to the Board of Directors for consideration and action.
