Full Text

Col. Benton.—The opposition papers are exceedingly anxious to dispose of Col. Benton. It is natural enough, however, for he is found to be, as the Hoosiers would say, an exceedingly "ugly customer."— First he is made chief-justice by these veracious gentlemen. That falsehood exploded, he is placed at a still greater distance from the scene of his triumphs-in the collectorship at New-Orleans. That story, too, has nearly lived out its day, and now the whig papers are in a fair way to have him killed out of their way by Col. Strother. This latter method, we doubt not, is more to their liking, but, we take it, Col. Benton will hardly "stay killed," even to oblige those who feel so much solicitude about him. We expect to hear of his reading the whigs a lecture next winter upon the expunging resolution. It is exceedingly aggravating that the Col. will neither take office or be killed!
