NEW-YORK, April 14

Extract of a letter from an officer at Fort Wilkinson, to a gentleman in Georgetown; dated March 16, 1800.

"We are well situated, I am told, for health. The fort is on a fine eminence; and the appearance of this command respectable. It is, I believe, viewed in a very acceptable light, both by the neighbouring state and the frontier allies.

"Col. Gaither, has received a letter from Col. Benjamin Hawkins, which he very politely made an offer of to me, that I might be able to afford you some gratification respecting the situation of Indian affairs. Colonel Hawkins writes thus, "The report circulated is that a party of Spaniards, to the number of 200, visited the establishment under the expectation of finding Bowles at home; he was on a visit to some friends, they after a delay of 2 or 3 days, and after destroying by fire, &c. all his property, retired to their quarters. He (Bowles) has many violent enemies in that quarter." Col. H appears to be confident of his strong bottom, I hope he is not deceived.
