10th of February last, that the excessive Drought,
which still continued there, had caus'd so great a Scarcity
of Provisions, that a vast Number of People and Cattle
had been starv'd to Death; and that a Measure of Barley
which us'd to be sold for 10 d. was actually risen to Four
Florins. By this it is evident, that the Spaniards can
have no Supplies from thence; and as they are still in a
miserable Condition, for want of Corn, notwithstanding
the vast Supplies we have hitherto sent them, at the Ex-
pence to this Nation of a Crown per Quarter; perhaps
the holding our Hands for the future, would be as effec-
tual a Method as any we can take; to oblige them to
give immediate Satisfaction to our plunder'd Merchants
and Captains of Ships.
