COMMUNICATED.
I was struck with two pieces which I read in your paper of this morning—Domestic Manufactures and American Literature. England would not have the name she now bears of being the greatest and most ingenious manufacturing nation on earth, if the Hugenots had not been forced by persecution to leave the shores of their nativity. In two years, one hundred thousand emigrated to England, carrying with them the fruits of their intelligence and toil.—
On the subject of American Literature, Brown's Novels are hardly known, and yet I think they contain some of as fine touches of intellectual endowment as can be found in more modern favorites—read Edgar Huntley, for example.
