State Will Regulate Alaska Air Carriers, Under Newly Signed Legislation

JUNEAU, (AP) -- A bill providing for state regulation of Alaska air carriers was signed into law today by Gov. Egan.

The measure, a controversial issue before both sessions of the First State Legislature, puts intra-Alaska air commerce under the state Public Service Commission beginning Jan. 1 of next year.

The Governor also approved a separate bill to place regulation of motor freight carriers in Alaska under the Public Service Commission.

The new laws were among eight enacted by the Governor, raising to 167 the number adopted so far this year as a result of the 1960 lawmaking session that ended last month.
