It Is Plain.—The Gold Hill News thinks the lesson taught by the late election in California a plain one—meaning plunder and suffrage. It says: The plan of Nevada would succeed next year; there must be a distinct and open repudiation of the negro question and one adopted by Bill Stewart. It is said that the party's ward meetings in an attempt to go and canvass the country tax from other Nevada sources, will mislead the Pacific metropolis to the Democrat-River Kee.

In our opinion, if the Union party would prove itself worthy of success it will repudiate all such false teachers, all such lickerers after the flesh pots of conservatism as can find no better business than to be preparing themselves to join the Humboldt Register in denouncing the Radical Unionists as "mongrels" and lying about the party's principles. If a majority of the people of the United States had rather the rebels should rule this country than that the negroes should vote, then these weak-kneed brethren who are afraid that the Union party will not vomit up its Radicalism as a concession to the copperhead Democracy and to appease the ignorant and bigoted rabble who are its rank and file, and who never did vote the Union ticket, are about to get on the strong side once more. If the Union party is too weak and too cowardly to stand up to its principles, it does not deserve to live any longer than the Reveille and News seem to want it to.
