The majority for the present Governor of Pennsylvania has already been reduced below five thousand, which leaves 40,000 out of 81 thousand for the rival candidate. The measures obtained in the last Legislature were sufficient to discover the prevailing sense of the majority. From the Legislative proceedings of the next Legislature we shall be able to ascertain more directly the general disposition of the State, and how far the election is representative of any real change in the public opinion. The official account of the votes is not yet given, and probably the account will not be far from the general statement. So deeply has every heart been interested in the contest, that great impositions will not probably be attempted. It has been repeatedly said that many refused their aid to the republicans, because in the eagerness of contest, they considered less danger from the present state, than from their best hopes, when their ends could not be accomplished in a most dispassionate manner.
