An interesting and somewhat tumultuous session of the third house was held last evening, at which a joint and concurrent resolution to remove the capital to Sedalia was discussed, and after an hour spent in dilatory motions and filibustering, was forced to a vote and defeated by 24 to 11. The Sedalia men were chaperoned by Billy Steele, who sat in the lobby and directed their movements. When the vote was announced they were apparently surprised by their own weakness, and filed out hastily, taking no interest whatever in any further proceedings of the house for the evening.
Immediately after the house was called to order, and before the capital removal resolution was taken up, the presence of a large number of representatives was observed, and the query went around, "why were they there?" This was answered by Representative Finton, of Bates, taking the floor, and in an elegant speech, presenting, on behalf of his fellow members, a magnificent gold headed cane to Representative Crocker, of Iron county. Mr. Crocker, in acknowledgment, made a well timed reply, thanking his friends for the honor conferred.-Jefferson City Tribune.
