From 479 admitted aliens who are residents of the United States seeking information relative to employment, were received at the New York branch of the information bureau of immigration and naturalization, department of commerce and labor, during the week ended March 30.
Of these there were 101 Poles, 62 Germans, 33 Americans, 29 Irishmen, 17 Hebrews, 15 Danes, 19 Italians, 12 Lithuanians, 11 Swedes, 13 Armenians, 8 English, 45 Greeks, 7 Hungarians, 1 Magyars, 1 Turk, 5 Slovaks, 4 Finns, 3 Hollanders, 2 Swiss, and 1 Russian.
Farm laborers numbered 127, common laborers 127, factory hands 45, commercial workers 16, machinists 16, carpenters 17, firemen 12, clerks 15, bakers 5, blacksmiths 5, electricians 3, gas and steam fitters 7, painters 6, plumbers 5, engineers 1, shoemakers 1, tailors 1, and weavers 14.
On the other hand 101 persons were provided with employment during the same period; 29 to New York, 40 to New Jersey, 5 to Connecticut, 1 to Michigan, 2 to Pennsylvania, 23 to Vermont, 1 to Massachusetts, 1 to Rhode Island, 1 to North Carolina and 3 to New England.
Of these 51 were receiving from $10 to $25 per week with board and lodging; 47 common laborers, 2 domestics, 1 factory hand.
