dated October 20. 1762
: " BY a Snow which arrived here Yesterday from
London in 7 Weeks, which came out with the Scar-
borough. and who fell in with an English Squadron
off Cape Finisterre ; we have a Letter from a Captain
of one of the Ships, dated the 4th of September, who
writes, That he spoke with a Portuguese Vessel from
Portugal on the 2d of September, who told him that
there had been a great Battle in Portugal in which
the Portuguese got the Victory. and had killed and
taken 7000 Spaniards, and that Burgoyne's English
Regiment of Light Horse had done Wonders among
the Spaniards. ........The above Squadron had been
from Plymouth 10 Days, when the general Topic
was Peace.".....
