From the Kennebec Journal.
Keep it before the People.
That Shepherd Carey, Esq, one of the loco foco leaders in the House of Representatives, who was an assistant quarter-master in the Aroostook war, allowed and paid to Charles H. Shepherd and Wm. H. Carey, Jr., believed to be of the firm of Shepard Carey & Co., $2376 59. two thousand three hundred and seventy-six dollars and fifty-nine cents, for the transportation of ninety-five tons and twelve hundred pounds the distance of forty-five miles, in good sleighing.
And look at this.
Among the very articles for the transportation of which this money was paid were molasses at 75 cents a gallon: red flannel at 75 cents a yard: and axes at 27 dollars a dozen, paid by Shepard Carey quarter-master, to Shepherd Carey & Co. These are specimens of a vast number of charges made by agents, commissioners, contractors, all busy partisans of the Van Buren dynasty, and all apparently intent on the one great object,
The Spoils.
