FORT SCREVEN, Ga., April 5.-
Guns will roar over Fort Screven
tomorrow morning in observance of
Army day, when the 252nd Coast
Artillery, North Carolina, fires the
sub-caliber guns in a public demon-
stration at 10:30 o'clock.
A regimental parade will be staged
at 9 o'clock. The regimental band,
from Wilmington, will play a con-
cert preceding the demonstration.
Parading will be the complete
252nd Coast Artillery, including the
Third Battalion, which arrived from
Fort Moultrie, S. C., Tuesday.
The 37 mm. tube (sub-caliber) is
mounted over the big 155 mm. gun
and is used for practice prior to
service practice with the 155 mm.
gun with normal powder charges.
This gun fires a one pound projec-
tile approximately 3,000 yards.
The 155 mm. gun, with mount and
carriage, weighs 17 tons. It is hauled
by a 12-ton tractor. The gun fires a
35-pound projectile 17,000 yards with
a super charge of 34 pounds.
Batteries firing tomorrow will be
Batteries C and D, both from Greens-
boro.
The Band and First Battalion head-
quarters will hold open house. Their
equipment will be displayed in a
military manner in the barracks and
the public is invited to inspect the
quarters, after which a half holiday
has been declared for the soldiers.
