FADS AND FASHIONS
Featured materials in the felt hats for fall and winter wear will be velvet, velvet, plush, felt and beaver, and the color trend points to seal brown, high shades of red, terra cotta, peacock blue and lavender. The favorite trimmings will be breast effects and ostrich fancies, in high shades. Ostrich pompons also will be features.
Aigrettes are little shown in the New York shops, but a substitute is provided in the Boura, an aigrette effect.
Bead trimming, apparently, is not going out of fashion.
A recently shown serge suit had a short, loose coat, the raw edges of which was banded with bright blue beads—the serge was navy—embroidered in a straggling design about two inches wide. The neck edge of the coat and sleeves, too, showed the same banding.
The skirts of the newest evening gowns are not draped, but hanging in straight, graceful lines from the draped bodices. A number of those seen have short panniers.
Much of the new lingerie shows fine ruffles edged with colored lawn.
Pale pink, blue, lavender or yellow lawn is used, and it is applied to the net in the form of an inch-wide hem.
The up to date undergarments are made of sheerest materials, are close fitting and have flat trimmings. Fine nainsooks and batiste, sheer stripes, all-over embroideries and even organdies are being used.
Hand painted gauze as a material for gowns has been brought to special perfection in Paris this summer.
Some of the most beautiful and costly of these hand painted gowns show exquisite designs of pale roses arranged irregularly on skirt and corsage.
The roses are veiled in the most fragile tulle, while the hand painted gauze is mounted over some special color which will give special artistic effects.
