The faculty at Robert W. Gadsden School had a highly successful pre-planning period. For them the 1961-62 school year started Friday, August 25th. This was a day of work in the relaxed surroundings at Bradley's Beach. Cards were sent to each returning pupil, welcoming him to the new school year and informing him of his new teacher and room number. After this job was completed, Mr. F. G. Ellis, the hostess, had seafood plates served. The fresh seafood seemed more delicious as it was enjoyed by the cool salt air of the Atlantic Ocean.
With registration all set up, the week of August 28th was spent organizing the faculty into working groups, distributing books and materials, and arranging the classrooms. This background preparation enabled the work of the first week of school to run smoothly.
We are very happy to have five new teachers at Gadsden this year. Mrs. Lois Flowers, whom we all know, is a new fifth grade teacher.
The four teachers who are new to the system are: Miss Ollie Marshall, fourth grade, Miss Nellie Shellman and Mrs. Lillian Wright, first grade, and Miss Lula Young, second grade.
We are looking forward to the best school year ever!
