CHEERS FOR HARTMAN.

Senator Carter Arraigned for His Recent Misstatements,

Special Dispatch to the Standard.

Red Lodge, Oct. 31.-The democratic rally held here to-night called out a large and representative audience. Congressman Hartman and F. P. Foster of Billings made eloquent addresses and created much enthusiasm. Hartman called the turn on Senator Carter for his statements here two weeks ago with reference to the free homestead bill, and declared that his endeavor to convince the people of Carbon county that he led the fight in the senate for the measure was on a par with the intimation that he (Hartman) had been derelict in his championship of the measure, and asserted that the defeat of the measure in the house was chargeable to republicans, 50 per cent. of whom voted against it. The meeting was very enthusiastic and cheered Hartman's scathing arraignment of the gold standard forces and laudatory mention of Campbell's candidacy to the echo.
