In 1895, when Harvard went to West Point, Manager Fred Moore and Captain Fairchild found that the $250 guarantee given the team by the cadets was raised by subscription, as no admission was charged for the game. On their return to Cambridge the Harvard management sent the guarantee back to West Point, whereupon the cadets subscribed for a silver loving cup, which was sent to Harvard. Since then Harvard has paid its own expenses to West Point. Colonel Mills, the West Point commander, is an old Harvard man.
