Meeting Of Medical Fraternity.—

The medical fraternity of the city met in the rooms of the Board of Education yesterday afternoon to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of the late Dr. James Cummins.

Dr. W. J. Bates called the meeting to order, and on his motion Dr. Frissell was chosen Chairman. Dr. S. L. Jepson was elected Secretary.

Dr. Frissell, upon taking the chair, made a few remarks, alluding briefly to the short time that had elapsed since the members of the fraternity met together for the purpose of expressing their regret at the death of Dr. Baguley, and announced that the object of the present meeting was to take similar action upon the decease of Dr. James Cummins.

Dr. Bates, sen., suggested the propriety of preparing appropriate resolutions, and moved that a committee be appointed for the purpose. The motion was adopted, and Drs. W. J. Bates, E. A. Hildreth and Geo. Baird were appointed as the committee.

During the absence of the committee Dr. John C. Campbell arose and spoke briefly of the life and character of his deceased friend. He said he had known him from boyhood, and had roomed with him at college some thirty-four years ago. Dr. Cummins was generous, kind-hearted and courteous to every person. He was a favorite at school, as he was also a favorite in his profession. The speaker had never known a physician to get along better with the profession than had Dr. Cummins. He was a kind-hearted, genial man, and it was due to his memory to speak of his many virtues.

Dr. Frissell also spoke highly of the deceased physician, saying that he never knew aught against him, and that he always stood very high among his professional friends.

The Committee on Resolutions reported the following, which were unanimously adopted:

Whereas, It has pleased an All-Wise Providence to remove by death our late friend and associate, Dr. James Cummins: therefore

Resolved, That in the death of Dr. Cummins our profession has been deprived of an able and conscientious member, and the community has lost the services of a faithful physician, whose uniformly kind, courteous and obliging demeanor endeared him to a large circle of patients and friends.

Resolved, That we tender to the family and friends our heartfelt sympathy in their affliction.

Resolved, That we will attend the funeral in a body.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family of the deceased, and that they be also published in the daily papers.

The resolutions were also ordered published in three of the leading medical journals of the country.

Drs. R. W. Hazlett, W. J. Bates and Sample Ford were appointed a committee to prepare a biographical sketch of Dr. Cummins, for publication.

The meeting then adjourned.
