There is provision at present in England for the education of about 700,000 children, including 100,000 at the Sunday schools, 150,000 at the schools of Bell and Lancaster, and 350,000 at dame schools. The whole number of children between 5 and 14 years of age, is estimated at nearly 1,500,000, and the number wholly unprovided with the means of education at from 200,000 to 300,000.
