Upon the Receipt of this News, Orders have been sent to the Commandants of the Troops in the Ukraine to assemble Part of them in the Line, and send out Detachments towards the Steppe, or Desert, to secure the Inhabitants from the Incursions of the Tartars. A Courier has also been dispatched to Constantinople, with Orders for our Ambassador to complain to the Grand Signior, and demand Justice and Satisfaction for such Outrages, as being an Infringement of the Treaty of Belgrade, repugnant to the Intentions and Declarations of his Highness, and contrary to the Orders he several Times sent to the Khans of the Tartars, charging them to look to the Conduct of their Subjects, and prevent their doing any Thing against the Laws of good Neighbourhood.'
