BIG PARADE
SATURDAY
Paterson, N. J., May 16.—Billy Sunday will begin his last week here to-morrow. His three meetings to-day attracted a total of 29,000 people.
Next Sunday the collection will be Billy's and announcement was made to-day that any one who wants to send in a check in advance may do so. The first check for Billy has already arrived. It was from E. H. Gary, but no announcement was made as to its size.
The Rev. George A. Mooney of Grace M. E. Church spoke at the afternoon meeting and asked that the collection be large. He said Billy is a modern John the Baptist, called to stimulate the church.
A big parade is scheduled in Billy's honor next Saturday. It had been arranged for the afternoon of Billy's arrival here, but the blizzard prevented it.
To-morrow is Billy's day off and he, Rodey and Jack Cardiff will join a team of clergymen in a game of base-ball at Totowa Oval against the Pica Club, most of whose players will be newspaper men who have been reporting Billy's revival. Billy asked his congregations to-day to pray for the Pica Club team, "for they need it most."
The afternoon and evening sermons were for men only and were anti-booze. "We are the most drunken, bestial and murderous of the nations," said Billy. "What home has been made happier, what girl has been made purer, what father has been helped by booze? The saloon demands 600,000 souls a year as its toll. I will keep fighting the bleareyed, peanut brained whiskey gang as long as I have breath."
Total collections to-day were $1,771.77 and there were 1,317 trail hitters.
Yesterday was the last day for Paterson saloon keepers to renew their licenses. Last year 497 licenses were issued; this year there was a decrease of twenty-four, for which much credit is given to Billy Sunday.
