New York, Jan. 10 Roy Wilkins, Executive Secretary of the NAACP conferred with President-Elect John F. Kennedy Friday and said afterwards he is satisfied the incoming President will support all of the Democrat Platform pledges on civil rights.
Wilkins said this includes a pledge to change the Senate rules to make it easier to stop filibuster against Civil Rights legislation.
Wilkins spent almost an hour with Kennedy.
"I just wanted to talk about plans for civil rights," Wilkins told newsmen.
"I am satisfied that he understands the importance and the place of civil rights, and that his administration will support all the pledges of the platform."

he feels Kennedy has been soft-pedaling the civil right issue, Wilkins replied: "I never said he has soft pedaled in the first place, so I couldn't say that he still is soft pedaling."
As for the party platform's strong civil rights plank, Wilkins said he regards Kennedy as one of the architects of the platform, and therefore thoroughly committed to it.
Wilkins also was questioned about the opposition of Sens. Willis Robertson, D-Va., and John Sparkman, D-Ala., to Kennedy's appointment of a Negro civil rights leader, Robert F. Weaver of New York, as chief of the Federal Housing and Home Finance Agency.
Wilkins alluded to the fact they are southern Democrats and said their opposition to Weaver was to be expected.
