Full Text

C. S. Barrett, President of the National Farmers' Union, sounds a note of warning to the members of his organization, which is interesting to all of us. As the farmers have had more experience in organization matters they are making more and more of a success in curtailing their cotton crops, the holding of it for better prices. Foreign manufacturers of cotton establishments understand the power of the Farmers' Union to control prices. According to Mr. Barrett, these manufacturers are forming syndicates for the purpose of buying up American cotton lands. These can be manned with cheap foreign labor and the efforts of the American farmer to secure better prices will be in vain. Already, between twelve and thirteen million acres of the finest cotton lands in the South have passed into the hands of these syndicates. Mr. Barrett's idea is that something should be done and that at once to prevent the absorption of our cotton lands by foreign syndicates.
