"Enlarging of Papers." We omitted to notice, in the proper place, the following very candid confession, made by the Editor of the Tuesday's and Friday's paper in the elegant article, which he compiled, on the subject of enlarging papers:
"Since 1825 a thousand dollars have been added to the expenses of every existing establishment, and we print on a paper that costs a dollar and seventeen cents more per ream, and requires one fifth more composition, at the SAME YEARLY SUBSCRIPTION Which WAS FORmerly received for a smaller sheet and less labor, and which has existed ever since the old Gazette was issued upon little more than a letter sheet."
It was not long since, that the editor of the same paper, avowed publicly, that on Fridays he circulated TWO THOUSAND PAPERS; and now, we find him complaining, that he has the "SAME YEARLY CIRCULATION Which WAS formerly received for a smaller sheet and less labor, and which [circulation] has existed, ever since the old Gazette was issued, upon little more than a letter sheet." The circulation of the "old Gazette," amounted to about four hundred papers, and as the gentleman avows that his "yearly subscription" does not exceed that of the "old Gazette," we infer, that his circulation, does not exceed four hundred papers. His memory is certainly very deceptive;—"give him a rope that is long enough and he will soon hang himself." We certainly had supposed that his circulation was greater; but we must take him at his word, and instead of "two thousand" set him down "four hundred."
