Full Text

A colored imitator of Sam Jones' style of pulpit oratory has come to grief in Alabama. He was much impressed with the way Samuel addressed his hearers: "You yellow hound," "You imp of hell," &c., so he thought he would try it on his congregation. Warming up in his tirade he addressed his members as "black devils," "gow cats," and other as expressive names, when he was summarily called down by a mob, which was quickly formed to lynch him, and which was only prevented from carrying out its designs by the appeals of his wife, who plead that he had become suddenly insane. The next day he was arraigned before a magistrate and fined for profanity in church. The black race may not be as intelligent as the white, but it must be admitted that they manage some things better than their more favored white brethren.
