The number of boys attending the primary schools in 1829 was only 969,340. In 1832, they amounted to 1,200,715, and when the last census was taken, 1834, they had risen to 1,697,321.— This last result was the consequence of the execution of the Law of the 28th June, 1833, and proves that the charge it imposed on the communes was beneficial.
