THUNDERSTORMS TO MAKE IT COOL

It Is Hot Today and Was Yesterday But the Weather Man Promises Better Temperature Sunday.

Keokuk temperature did not reach the summer's record yesterday, but it was hot enough. The official thermometer went to 96 degrees, where it has been before this summer, as well as to 97 one day and 98 another day this month.

Keokuk was in the hottest area of the country, the same temperature as here being registered at Davenport, Des Moines, Kansas City, Omaha, North Platte and St. Louis. Salt Lake City only was warmer, the mercury there going to 98 degrees.

Today was to be hot by the morning forecast, and it came up to specifications. But Sunday is to be cooler, the weather bureau says, following thunderstorms hereabouts.

The heat is caused by a high pressure in the atmosphere covering the southeastern part of the United States, with a low pressure area far to the northwest, forcing the southern heat up past Keokuk. But an area of high pressure appeared this morning on the Pacific coast of Canada which will force some of that cool air down past here Sunday sometime.

The heat is due to a high pressure system from the southeast and low pressure to the northwest, but a new high pressure from the Pacific coast of Canada will bring cooler air and thunderstorms by Sunday.
