Full Text
If anything were needed to prove the fact that the Democratic party is a double-faced organization the recent conventions of the party held in Ohio and Pennsylvania would furnish conclusive evidence to all the doubters. The Ohio Democrats adopted a platform containing a plank deprecating a protective tariff; the Pennsylvania Democrats adopted the platform of their Ohio brothers with the exception of the anti-protection plank which they struck out. This is Democracy. In 'protection' localities the party advocates protection; in free trade communities it advocates free trade, and as a national organization it is neither fish, flesh nor fowl on the tariff question, and has pronounced for a tariff for revenue-with incidental protection.
