Arise Americans—a new song.

AMERICANS! arise to glory,
Defend your country and your laws;
Let not your fathers, fam'd in story,
Shed their blood without a cause!
Are not your fields still whitened over
With many a patriot's warning frame?
And the bleached bones discover
Monuments of British shame?
See the Hudson's gentle waters
Tinged with a Prince's gore;
Think the prisons, and the tortures,
Which your Patriot brethren bore.
Hark! upon the distant breezes,
Float the sighs of pris'ners slain,
While from want, or fell diseases,
Thousands strew Long-Island's plain!
Will you sell your dear bought freedom,
Supplicate your former foe;
Yield your rights to all that need 'em,
Purchase thus a lasting woe?
O, bid your martial ardor kindle
In defence of all that's dear;
Nor let your ancient spirit dwindle
Through a base, ignoble fear.
