A Massachusetts paper says: The plans for Mrs. Mark Hopkins' proposed dwelling at Great Barrington show the building to be little short of a palace, costing not less than $1,000,000 and probably very much more. It will be built of the bluestone taken from her own quarry, and its dimensions are 170 feet by about 140. The rear part will have its foundation on a level with the meadow. That part will be five or six stories high, and the front will be two or three stories. There will be two towers near the main entrance over 50 feet high. It will contain a labyrinth of rooms, a court, gables and pinnacles, all on the most magnificent scale. While the building is going on a very high fence will inclose it, so that the process of building cannot be seen. It is to be finished in three years, and it is said by those who have seen the plans that there will be no residence in America to compare with it in magnificence.
