"This day accounts were brought of the Caribbs, or natives of this island, cutting off two of the windward posts, and 4 soldiers who were on these posts. On Saturday night, the 12th instant we had a very hard storm of wind, rain, thunder, &c. I may almost say a hurricane. It has destroyed a great part of the ensuing crop. The Jupiter, of Greenock, Capt. Byers, was drove on shore out of the bay, and has not since been heard of. She was in ballast, and it is to be feared she has overset. I am much afraid the militia will be called out on an expedition against the Caribbs, which will be very disagreeable at this season of the year."
