LOUISVILLE-(A.N.I.)-The Midwestern Negro Democratic Association will hold a convention and campaign rally here on Saturday, September 28. The association is composed of members from ten states in the middle west embracing Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Tennessee. The meeting is the fourth in a series planned by the Association. The other three meetings were held in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana, respectively, and cover a period beginning from October 6, 1939.
In its meeting at Indianapolis, last June, the association adopted and sent strong resolutions to the President, Congress and the Army and Navy departments urging that Negroes be admitted to every branch of the defense forces of the nation and asking that all discrimination in the army, navy and air service be discontinued.
A feature of the Louisville meeting will be the presentation of Hon. Henry A. Wallace, Democratic vice presidential nominee.
J. L. Marshall, East St. Louis, Ill., is president of the association and Thomas J. R. Wilson, St. Louis, Mo., is secretary. Other officers include Mrs. Cyrene C. Tret, Chicago; Dr. J. M. Robinson, Arkansas; Alderman F. B. Ranson of Indiana; Manson James, Des Moines, Iowa; Rev. W. A. Payton, Topeka, Kansas; Jordan W. Chambers, St. Louis; Robert C. McGruder of Kentucky; Harry Leeland of Omaha, Nebraska; Roscoe Dunjee, Oklahoma City; and Jasper C. Horne of Tennessee.
