While the monsters of ambition and avarice, are carrying fire and sword through many fertile countries of Europe, and the once peaceable inhabitants are daily sacrificed to their unreasonable desires; how happy ought we to consider ourselves in the quiet pursuits of industry, and the enjoyment of the fruits of our labours!—Under such circumstances, a people should cherish in their minds, the love of God, and promote the practice of virtue, among all the members of society; for it is the Divine Author of good, who fertilizes the soil, and give success to the labours of man.
