Copy of a letter to Mathew Carey, Esq. Chairman of the Greek Committee, dated Gibraltar Bay, April 23, 1827.

Dear Sir—By the ship Addison, about sailing for Philadelphia, I have the pleasure to inform you of the safe arrival of the Tontine at this bay, on the 21st instant, after a passage of 24 days, all well.

I am sorry to say there are none of our squadron here at present, all being in the Mediterranean: we are, therefore, unable to obtain any information from that quarter. Yesterday being Sunday, had not an opportunity to consult any of our merchants as to the most likely course to take in order to fall in with them; should we be so fortunate as to meet either of them, it is the general impression that they will give us convoy; shall therefore endeavor to do so.

I have carefully perused your letter of instructions, and can only say that every particular adverted to them shall be strictly adhered to as far as it is practicable; and no exertions shall be wanting on my part to conduct the whole business in such manner as to give satisfaction to the committee and those of my fellow-citizens who have contributed to the laudable purpose for which we are destined to this sea.

I shall take advantage of every opportunity that offers, to inform you how we are proceeding.

Yours, &c.

JOSEPH WORRELL, Jr.

P. S. We are now about getting under way; shall therefore be unable to learn any thing more.
