Iron county is to send another contingent of recruits to camp for training. Pass Up Camp Custer.

All of the recruits that have been sent from here under the draft act have gone to Camp Custer, the cantonment in which the soldiers from Michigan and Wisconsin are supposed to train. The war department has varied the rule this time and are sending the boys directly to the South. It is understood that the reason for this change is that the troops at Camp Custer are pretty well seasoned, and the military authorities do not wish to impede their early dispatch to the finishing school in France by throwing into the ranks a number of raw recruits.

The southern climate at this time is much better for training men than is that of Camp Custer and by sending the men called to service at this time directly to some southern training camp they will be fitted to cross the ocean much earlier than they would if they were sent to a northern camp.

Should Give Them a Reception.

The question of giving the boys who are to leave us next Monday a parting farewell has been up and it is understood that the council of local defense or the Red Cross will take up the matter and give the boys the same farewell greeting that has been given those of our young men who have gone before them.

The band will turn out and escort them to the station and a patriotic speech will be made by some of our local talent. The roads are such just now that we can't expect a large delegation of our Iron River and Stambaugh neighbors to join us, a fact that we regret very much for the major portion of the young men are from those two sections.

However, it devolves upon us to speak for the entire county this time and we want to rally to the occasion and let the boys know that Iron county prizes highly its young manhood and that the hearts of its people, no matter in what part of the county they live, are with the boys wherever they may be.
