ON WITH THE NEW
With his head sunk between his arms and his voice sunk between a minor and a flat, Frisbie Breckersfield, president of the famous Breckersfield Institution for the Salvaging of Alcoholic Wrecks, moaned despondently.
“We'll have to close. That's all.
Prohibition is killing the business.
The rummies are no more.
Confirmed sots and dips are things of the past.
What's the world coming to?”
He'd sn
He heard the superintendent:
“Phone up
Mr. Breckersfield. I know sailors have ideas, but when I have a man, the brilliance makes up for the parity.
I am having one at the moment.
The same old business man.
All alone.
Intoxicated.
Present.
But Frisbie Breckersfield had already leaped up and was shaking him warmly by the hand.
He was transformed into a flatterer.
Two months later the entire guide.
"The institution is saved!" he cried.
Involving floors and walls painted with black and white checks and every day countless streams of doughnuts.
Crowded in to get a harmless high feeling.
Soubriety.
(Monday-"Simply Fab: ar." by the same author shortly afterwards story that a modern girl can read to her grandmother with impunity)
