While our people, or at least some of them, are rushing headlong to the precipice of emancipation, would it not be well for them to pause a moment, and see what the people of Ohio think of a free negro population. Let experience answer theory.
The people of Brown county, Ohio, as if with the design to rebuke the folly of Kentucky emancipationists, have held a large meeting at Georgetown, on the subject of the late act of the Legislature repealing the black laws. They passed strong resolutions denouncing the repeal, and speaking of the free black population as IDLE, WORTHLESS AND IGNORANT, A BLESSING TO NONE, BUT A CURSE TO ALL.' They speak of 'the enterprising laboring white man being brought into competition with the dull and ignorant black man, and Ohio THE PARADISE OF WORTHLESS AND OFF-CAST NEGROES.' The gentlemen who addressed the meeting, spoke in reference to the evils of free negroism, and of the incapacity of the negro to take care of himself, in even much stronger terms than those used in the resolutions.
After this, we think our fanatics here should blush at the folly of the course they are pursuing.—Maysville Flag.
