They Want $2 A Day And Hours Of Labor Reduced To Eight

Two dollars per day and eight hours for a day's work is the slogan of the laborers who work on the streets and all other common labor performed in all departments.

The men have been paid for many years $1.50 per day and have worked nine and ten hours per day.

The proposition was brought before the aldermen at the council meeting last night in the shape of a resolution which was drafted by a committee of three men who are not employees of the city.

In the resolution the statement was made that the cost of living was so high that the workmen found it a hard matter to get along on the wages they had been receiving.

The committee signing the resolutions was composed of the following: James Curry, J. N. Collins and H. Morton Yale.

Alderman Greaney moved to refer the resolution to the ordinance committee and city attorney. Hunter Bird. The motion was carried.
