MORE COUNTERFEITS.
It is truly an alarming circumstance to hear that the circulation of counterfeit bank notes has become so general of late.
On Thursday evening last two men were apprehended in this town on suspicion of having in their possession forged bank notes; this was done at the instance of a gentleman who arrived here in pursuit of them on the above evening from George Town, upon whom a forged note of fifty dollars had been imposed by one of the culprits. They were taken before a magistrate, and search being made counterfeit bills for the amount of 600 dollars were found on them, when they were committed to prison for further trial. The notes are of the denomination of 50 and 100 dollars. There are some of them made payable to the order of Adam Gilchrist, at the office of discount and deposit at Charleston; the others are on the banks of New York and Baltimore; they are exceedingly well executed except the names of John Swan and Thomas Willing, the latter very clumsily written. They perfectly correspond with the description of those found on Thomas Logwood at Richmond and those mentioned in a late Charleston paper; for the description of which see our last Thursday's paper.
