MICHIGAN HAS EARLY
STRAWBERRIES
W. S. Reeder, winter visitor to
Brooksville from Evanston, Illinois,
is a booster for his home
state but at the same time is confi-
dent that his adopted land is also a
great commonwealth and does not
cast any reflection on his new
home country. To show what
Michigan is doing in the manner
of farming, Mr. Reeder has clipped
the following from the Illinois
State Journal, which shows that
strawberries were grown and serv-
ed in that state on Thanksgiving
day:
Strawberries for Thanksgiving
Here
Florida, Tennessee, or those oth-
er southern states to which the
folks with an assured income are
now trekking, have nothing on
Lansing in fruit culture. Right
here in this town where snow is
now supposed to cover the old gar-
den and the roses, strawberries are
ripening and shrubbery is budding.
Lewis Bean, employee of the
Lansing Dairy company, has
brought to The State Journal of-
fice, a sample of ripe strawberries
which were taken from the beds at
his home, 524 North Francis ave-
nue. There are green berries as
well as ripe ones on the vines.
Bean set the plants in his garden
a year ago. He is now enjoying
strawberries from his own garden.
